Education and youth

Municipalities manage the valuable infrastructure related to kindergartens and basic education, and also organise assistance for the disabled and those with special educational needs. In addition to guidance and the co-ordination of records, municipalities are also responsible for auditing and monitoring, including of private day-care kindergartens.

Support in the form of geographic information can provide information which shows the location and capacity of existing kindergartens and schools, the age composition of the municipality, and the situation for the placement of future students.

This underpins strategic decisions, such as:

  • School districts
  • Suitability of school routes (traffic-safety plan)
  • The need for school transport

In the long term, this provides a better foundation for decision-making for the location of new provisions.
